Franklin County, Mo. — A 13-year-old driver caused a fatal accident here at the intersection of Highway 47 and 100 just after midnight Friday, July 27.
Missouri Highway Patrol said a ’01 Chevrolet S10 pickup driven by a 13-year-old girl from Union, Mo., slammed into a car waiting to make a left turn at the intersection of 47 and 100 resulting in the death of the driver, Audrey N. Northum, 17, of Washington, Mo.
Police said the 13-year-old was traveling northbound on 47, failed to yield for an emergency vehicle and was traveling in excess of the posted speed limit, failed to make the right hand turn and went onto Hwy. 100 and struck the left hand side of Northum’s ’02 Mazda Protégé 5 head-on. Police said the impact of the crash pushed both vehicles off the north side of Missouri 100 where they came to a rest. Police said Northum was stopped at a red light waiting to make a left hand turn.
The victim was taken to Mercy Hospital, Washington, Mo., and pronounced dead at Mercy Medical Center, Creve Coeur, at 2:54 a.m. Friday by Dr. Troop.
The pickup truck driver and her 11-year-old passenger were taken to Mercy Hospital at Washington with “moderate injury” police said. No condition report was available Saturday.
