The announcement was made Monday by Broncos General Manager John Elway after Kubiak and Elway watched the NFL conference playoffs together Sunday.
Kubiak in 2014 was offensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens. He was head coach of the Houston Texans from 2006 through 2013; there he had a 63-66 record.
Before that Kubiak was offensive coordinator and quarterback coach for the Broncos from 1995 through 2005. He was quarterback coach for the San Francisco 49ers in 1995 and was running backs coach at Texas A&M in 1994.
After attending Texas A&M, Kubiak was drafted by the Broncos, and from 1983 through 1991 he was backup quarterback behind
John Elway.
Kubiak succeeds Broncos Head Coach John Fox, 59, who after four seasons with Denver “mutually agreed” with Broncos management that they “part ways.” Late last week Fox was named new head coach of the Chicago Bears.
Jack Del Rio, 51, Broncos defensive coordinator for the past three years, was named head coach of the Oakland Raiders. Del Rio was head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2003 through 2011
Update: Adam Gase, 36, Broncos offensive coordinator for the past two years, earlier was expected to become offensive coordinator for the Ravens or the Jacksonville Jaguars. He interviewed Wednesday for that that job with the Chicago Bears and was awarded a 3-year contract later in the day. Gase earlier had hoped to be a head coaching candidate. Before he was Broncos offensive coordinator he was quarterback coach for two years and wide receivers coach for two years before that. Before that he spent one year as an assistant for the 49ers and four years as an assistant and coach with the Detroit Lions. After attending Michigan State University he spent three years as an assistant at LSU.
