Markel DeMario Owens

Markel DeMario Owens

God in His infinite wisdom has touched and called from this life another warrior. Markel DeMario Owens departed this life on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital, Jackson, Tenn.
Markel was born Feb. 26, 1992, in Jackson, Tenn., to Chermaine Owens-Shivers, who along with her late husband, Johnny Shivers, and Markel’s grandparents, Don and Carolyn Hennings, raised him to be the young man we had all come to know and love. Don and Carolyn instilled great morals and values in Markel and taught him to be a loving, caring and respectful young man. They encouraged Markel to keep Jesus first in his life, and through that encouragement, in 2003, Markel confessed his faith, accepted Christ in his life and joined West Bemis Missionary Baptist Church.
Markel graduated with honors from Liberty Tech High School in 2010; while attending, he played football and achieved all District MVP. This achievement led to the great accomplishment of him receiving a full scholarship to Arkansas State University, Jonesboro, Ark. At Arkansas State, he was working to obtain his degree in Business Management, and playing defensive lineman for the Arkansas State University Red Wolves. His ambition was to go to the NFL, and/or to become a high school football coach.
Preceding him in death was his grandfather, L. T. Wardlow.
He leaves to cherish his precious memory his mother, Chermaine Owens-Shivers, Jackson Tenn., one brother, Jonathan Shivers, Jackson; grandparents, Don and Carolyn Hennings, Jackson; grand-mother, Cora Wardlow, Humboldt, Tenn.; aunt, Tehonary (Tony) Wortham, Jackson; uncles, Dustin (Adrienne) Hennings, Memphis, Tenn.; Kevin (Stephany) Hennings, South Carolina; girl friend, Taylore Batchelor, Jackson; biological father, Cornelius Wardlow; his favorite cousins, James, Gabby, Ashley, Dillon, Antonio, Jordan, Jaylen, Jihana, Joshua and Dustin, Jr., along with a host of other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
