Springfield, Mo. — Judge J. Ronald Carrier today in a motions hearing agreed to separate the trials of Gypsy Blancharde and Nicholas Godejohn, both accused of the murder of Dee Dee Blancharde, Gypsy’s mother.
Both previously indicated an interest in seeking separation, and Godejohn’s attorney, public defender Stephanie J. Bullard of Bolivar, filed the motion to separate.
In addition, Godejohn’s attorney previously filed for a change of judge, and Judge Carrier agreed to that. The new judge has not yet been named.
Gypsy’s case remains before Judge Carrier, and her preliminary hearing is still scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, July 24.
The date for Godejohn’s preliminary hearing will be scheduled after a new judge is named.
Both are charged with 1st Degree Murder and Armed Criminal Action. Each has pleaded not guilty.
Bond has been set at $1 million each.
Godejohn and Gypsy are both charged in the brutal murder of Gypsy’s mother, Dee Dee. According to police reports, the pair killed Dee Dee at her Springfield home on or about June 9 and fled to Wisconsin with several thousand dollars that was in the home safe.
Godejohn arrived at the Greene County Jail Wednesday, July 8, after being held at the Waukesha County, Wis., Jail since June 16 and waiving extradition on June 29. His arraignment was July 13. Gypsy’s arraignment was June 29, after waiving extradition on June 22.
